
## 1. Obtain your hardware key

Before you can request a new license, you need to obtain your system's hardware key:

> **Note:** User SAP* can always log in, even with an expired license.

1. Log in to your SAP system as user SAP* using the default password for your instance.
2. Navigate to transaction code `SLICENSE`.
3. Locate and copy your hardware key from the `SLICENSE` screen.

## 2. Create your license on the SAP support portal

1. Go to the SAP Support Portal at [https://go.support.sap.com/minisap/#/minisap](https://go.support.sap.com/minisap/#/minisap).
2. On the portal, select the corresponding license type. For example, if you're using ABAP Cloud Developer Trial, you should select "A4H - SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 7.4 and above (Linux / SAP HANA)".
3. Use the hardware key obtained in **1.3.** to request your new license through the portal.

## 3. Install your new license

1. Log in to your SAP system as user SAP* using the default password for your instance.
2. Navigate to transaction code `SLICENSE`.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions to update your license with the newly generated key.

Timely license renewal ensures uninterrupted access to your SAP system. We recommend completing this process when you are notified that the license is expiring soon to maintain smooth operations.
